“I have stored up your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

Psalm 119:11

With each thought we hold consciously or plant within our non-conscious our brain responds with the release of chemicals (hormones), and electrical energy. These things travel to every cell in the body. Therefore, what we think affects our health. The first major organ (outside the brain) to be impacted by our thoughts is the heart. With the influx of chemicals, and electrical energy washing over and through the heart, you can truly say that what you think is stored or written upon your heart.

Most heart health issues are related to fear. Today we call it stress, worry, or anxiety. Whatever you want to call it, it comes down to fear. A prolonged fear. A fear that dwells within the brain and becomes written upon the heart, as well as every other cell in your brain and body. No wonder we see things such as heart palpatations, high blood pressure, A-fib, and nearly every other heart health issue people experience, as well as anxiety attacks. That continued flow of negative, even toxic energy and chemicals is storing up and writing that fear upon the heart.

Fear is a “big” lying spirit that accompanies many of the other lying spirits. The belief in any lie opens the door to those lies, as well as the accompanying fear, to take authority in your life. Fear is the opposite of faith. The scriptures remind us over 3oo times “do not fear.” Yet, that lying spirit whispers to you, “God will not take care of you; You are not worthy of love; You are the only one who can fix this problem; If you do/don’t do _____ something bad will happen to you or someone you love; Something bad happened to you when _____ and it will happen again; The boss asked to meet with you tomorrow, he’s going to fire you; Everyone rejects you sooner or later; Your former classmates already have nice jobs and homes, but you don’t- you will never measure up; God made a mistake when He made you; You’re not making enough money to meet the bills, you will lose everything;” etc….

I remember as an elementary student being told that the world was going to run out of electricity, and we were doomed if we left on the lights. I spent several days continually going around the house turning off lights and unplugging things out of a fear due to a lie that had been told to me. After several days of this, my dad had had enough and told me to stop turning off the lights and unplugging the appliances, or he would spank me! Fortunately, mom took time to sit down and explain to me that what our teacher had told us in school was not true. I knew I could trust my mom, and if she was pointing out a lie, I could believe her. The fear tried to hang on a bit longer, but mom kept reassuring me with the truth. Finally, the lie was replaced with truth, and fear could no longer influence my thoughts or motivate my behavior.

Fear is not going to stop trying to take authority in your life. And once it has authority, bondage follows. That bondage is being in constant stress, worry, or anxiety. That is when one avoids situations that make them fearful (anxious), ends up losing sleep due to an unsettled mind, starts dealing with ulcers, strives to control or manipulate things/people/situations in order to avoid a bad outcome or to bring a good outcome, and so many more behaviors that reinforce the negative thoughts. One operates out of one’s thoughts and beliefs. And due to the release of chemicals and energy, those thoughts and beliefs are literally stored and written upon the heart. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. What we store and write upon our heart will naturally come out of our mouths. Will we speak negative or positive? Fear or faith? Chaos or shalom? Joy or bitterness? Envy or gratitude?

King David said that he was storing up the word of God within his heart that he might not sin against God. How was he doing that? He was thinking upon, meditating upon, speaking and acting upon the word of God daily. Remember the Quantum Zeno Effect: the repeated effort required to learn something. It cannot be stored or written upon our hearts unless we are thinking and acting upon it repeatedly so that the brain can send out the corresponding chemicals and electrical energy to “write” His word in the cells of our hearts. So, like David, we must daily be reading or hearing and mindfully thinking upon the word of God. We must daily be acting with faith in His word. We must repeat this every day, even multiple times a day until it is truly written upon our hearts.

YHWH promised to work all things together for your good and to His glory. Will you act as if you believe that, or as if you believe God doesn’t care and it all depends upon you to fix the seemingly impossible issue? Will you rest in shalom or deal with a worried mind? Will you trust that He is truly your provider, or will you lose sleep over your finances? Will you act as if God is always with you as He promised, or will you act as if you are all alone? Fear projects into the future. Faith does as well. Which will you choose?

You will act and speak out of the abundance of your heart. Your heart stores up what you think and believe. This week start storing the Word of God in your heart on a daily basis so that the abundance that flows out of your heart is not only pleasing to Him, but is truly healing to yourself and to others around you in mind, body, and spirit. Start with reading His word, and work at memorizing a verse or two that resonate with you in this time.

Until next time…

“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Matthew 12:33-34
